2009 Running Start College Course Descriptions

A set of classes designed directly for our youth participants
(see the classes in the Venturing section, too!)

Youth 14 – 17 are encouraged to select courses from throughout the University.  Youth must also complete the permission slip along with the registration form.
Youth 11 -13 attend the following prescribed course sequence: RUN 504 Den Chief Training, RUN 461 Pack Pizzazz, RUN 181 Troop Games, and either RUN 180 Fast Start to First Class or RUN 551 Eagle Projects.
Youth 14 - 17 are encouraged to select from all University Colleges.  Courses of specific interest may include GEN 325, VEN 272 – 316, VEN 473, BOY 315 – 323, BOY 430 & 433, BOY 446, & BOY 732.

RUN 504

Den Chief Training (3 hour class)

A Den Chief can make a big difference in the Cub Scout program. They can be a leader and mentor for our Cub Scouts and assist in the Webelos-to-Scout transition.
This class is being offered to eligible Boy Scouts and will prepare the Scout to be an effective den chief.
Become a den chief in order to help strengthen your troop by pulling in Webelos from the dens that you assist in.

How to Run a Troop Meeting

This class will help teach you how to run an effective troop meeting. It will give you Ideas and instruction for each step of the troop meeting.

Order of the Arrow and You What is the Order of the Arrow (OA)

This class is intended to help adult leaders and youth know more about the OA, and how it serves the units, district and council, and to let them know more about the Order.
It will also let them know how the OA can help its members get the most out of their Scouting experience, and what it does for Scouting.
Find out the importance of having an OA Representative in your troop.

Fast Start to First Class

The class is designed to help leaders (such as Patrol Leaders, SPLs, Instructors, Troop Guides, and Assistant Scoutmasters) help the younger troop members in advancing from Scout to First Class.

Learn how to make fun and interesting gadgets, what to do in certain emergency situations, and how to have fun camping without a tent.

Eagle Project Resources, Planning, and Execution

A step-by-step formula that will get you through your Eagle project, from conception to completion.

RUN 302

You Don’t Have to be the SPL to Lead

Learn about those lesser known troop leadership positions such as Historian, Quartermaster, Chaplain Aide, Troop Guide and most important of all, Den Chief.
Learn how important these are to the troop operation and how you can apply your own creative leadership. Learn the leadership skills to do a great job, the first time!

Add variety and excitement to your pack meetings with pre-opening activities, skits, cheers, run-ons, songs, games, and much, much more!
