As an NYLT staff member, you will get the chance to see what goes on “behind the scenes” and build onto your knowledge you already gained during the conference.  While staffing will require a few months of dedicated preparation, it all pays off when you actually put on the conference.  Staff participation is fun and rewarding.

Prerequisites

  • Youth

    • Fourteen Years of Age
    • Attended NYLT, the old Orion JLT course, or the equivalent of either course in another council
    • Scoutmaster recommendation
  • Adult

    • Experience working with youth
    • Willing to allow a highly motivated youth staff to demonstrate leadership skills while mentoring behind the scenes
    • Wood Badge a plus but not a requirement

Expectations

  • Participate fully in the extensive staff development program
  • Wear a complete BSA field uniform
  • Agree to conduct yourself according to the values in the Scout Oath and Scout Law at all times

Cost

  • Your expenses include getting to and from staff development and your uniforms.  There is no course fee for those selected to staff.

Staff Schedule

  • Someone may staff either or both courses as they desire.  The staff development sessions are combined for both courses, as many Scouts will work both.
  • Staff development requires several Friday night to Saturday night weekends.  In addition, there are preparation and clean-up periods before and after each session.
  • See either the staff application or information sheet for specific dates and times.
