NYLT Staff Information

As an NYLT staff member, you will get the chance to see what goes on “behind the scenes” and build onto the knowledge you gained during your conference. While staffing will require a few months of dedicated preparation, it all pays off when the participants arrive. Staff participation is fun and rewarding.

Staff Prerequisites

Youth (Scouts BSA)

  • 14 years old
  • Attended a previous NYLT course
  • A personal invitation from the current course SPL with recommendation from prior years’ staff

Youth (Venturing)

  • 15 years old (14 if previous course participant)
  • Attended a previous NYLT course
  • A personal invitation from the current course SPL with recommendation from prior years’ staff

Adult

  • Experience working with youth
  • Willing to allow a highly-motivated youth staff to demonstrate leadership skills while mentoring behind the scenes
  • Wood Badge a plus but not a requirement

Expectations

  • Participate fully in the extensive staff development program
  • Wear a complete BSA field uniform
  • Provide a complete BSA medical form (parts A, B and C)
  • Agree to conduct yourself according to the values in the Scout Oath and Scout Law at all times

Staff Cost

Your expenses include getting to and from staff development and your uniforms. There is no course fee for those selected to staff

Staff Schedule

Staff development requires at least one Friday night to Saturday night weekend. In addition, there are preparation and clean-up times before and after the course session. The actual schedule will be provided to staff by the current course SPL
